A life-saving ventilator…for a new lease of life
A survey of primary health care centers in India shows that most hospitals do not have the basic requirement of a ventilator. Ventilators in a hospital offer a vital lifeline to the sick and most vulnerable patients, providing the oxygen that keeps them alive when they are unable to breathe for themselves. It is often found that patients reach a hospital with a serious health condition and they develop breathing problems and gasp for air. The only way to save them is through artificial respiration made possible through a life-saving ventilator and this gives them a new lease of life. The RVM Foundation Hospital has had an unfortunate experience where a patient gasping for breath was rushed to our hospital and his life could not be saved due to the lack of a ventilator. The cost of a ventilator is a mere $8000 (approx. Rs. 3,80,000/-) whereas human life is undoubtedly priceless and nothing equals the value of human life.
